Australia Day Awards for Cooma Cats Identities

Sportstar of the Year- Damien Asanovski- On Australia Day last week Damien (Azzo) was "shocked yet humbled and honoured" to receive the Sportsperson of the year award. Azzo has been a member involved with the Cooma Cats for over 20 years and recently played his 300th game for the club. Although he has decided to retire from playing footy Azzo is still an intergral part of the Cooma Cats and AFL in our region in his role as senior coach and as a coaching co-coordinator for the region. As well as a local AFL legend he has also shone with the cricket bat and ball for many years and continues to turn out each week. Just don't give the man a golf club!!
Member of the Order of Australia - Rob Barnes - Although a relative newcomer to the Cooma Cats, Rob Barnes has been a revelation to the footy club in his desire to "Bring AFL Footy to the Snowy Mountains". But it is in his past life that saw him recognized for Australia Day honours. As Lt Col Robert Barnes, he spent 25 years working in the field of Public Affairs for the Australian Defence Force both in Australia and overseas. Rob said that he felt very humbled by the award and that it was a tribute to all the people he had worked with over the years.

Well done lads!!
