Cats bring AFL to Jindabyne

Australian Rules Football comes to the Snowy Mountains this Saturday afternoon (17 Apr) when the Cooma Cats take to the Station Resort Oval for the first ever senior AFL game to be played in Jindabyne.
Cats Club President Dave Paterson said this was an historic game not only for the club, but for AFL football in the region.
"This Saturday's game at the Station Resort Oval is the culmination of 18 month's hard work to bring AFL to the Snowy Mountains," Dave said.
"The Cats are dedicated to bringing AFL to the entire Snowy Mountains community and Saturday's game is a key part of our strategy of making AFL footy accessible to everyone in the region," he said.
The Cats, fresh after a great season opening win against the ADFA Rams last weekend, will take on a tough Gungahlin outfit with the opening bounce at 1pm this Saturday.
"Gungahlin have always been a tough side on the field and we enjoy our battles with them," Dave said.
The Cats are on a high after their first-round win last Saturday, but will need to maintain their momentum to match it with Gungahlin.
"This is going to be a big game for us. It is our first home game of the season, and the first home game to be played at our Jindabyne base. The team is really keen to impress and get a positive result on what will be a big day, "Dave said.
While the Cats will play most of their home games throughout the season at their traditional base at the Snowy Oval in Cooma, the club's junior team - the Snowy SuperCats - will play a number of games in Jindabyne when their season kicks off after the school holidays.
"We've worked hard with the Station Resort in developing the oval for AFL, the final part of the project being the installing of the goal posts this week," Dave said.
"The officials from the ACT / NSW AFL came down recently and expected the oval and said it was an excellent venue for footy.
"It's an exciting time for football in the Snowy Mountains, and the Cats welcome anyone and everyone to come down to the Station Resort Oval on Saturday to watch the game," Dave said.
As part of its program for the day, the Cats will be conducting an AusKick Clinic for youngsters prior to the big game at 1030am.
"All girls and boys are welcome to come along an get a taste of Australia's Number One football code," Dave said.
The Cats train at Snowy Oval in Cooma on Tuesday and Friday evenings and supporters are welcome to come along and get involved and be part of Snowy Mountains AFL community.
"We're always looking for new players and supporters and welcome anyone wanting to be involved in any way.
